Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Big Game Spot trailer reaction
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts got a short spot during the Super Bowl, with a character introduction to the Transformer Mirage, who looks like it will be the main Transformer character during the film. There are a couple of other shots, but some are taken from the first trailer.
The spot quickly opens with Mirage introducing himself, and Pete Davidson sounds extremely chill in the role, almost like he had been doing this for ages and running from humans was just an easy walk in the park.
It moves back to the action scene of Mirage driving extremely fast away from the cops, and projects four copies of the Porsche next to him, but with the added context of knowing that it’s Mirage doing that, well it’s easy to guess that projection is his power. This helps set him apart from the others, which is helpful, addressing something that became an issue in the later Transformers films.
Mirage’s central place as the human’s companion takes the place of Bumblebee from the previous films in the franchise, but he’s still in the film. Indeed, he’s in a plane ready to jump out, presumably to assist Mirage as at one point he gets chased by something on a similar background.
We then get a better look at Optimus Prime in his boxy glory, and then Optimus Primal beating his chest in a King Kong way. It certainly seems they’ve taken inspiration from King Kong in his design.
That ends the very brief trailer, but at the end it does something with the logo. Instead of keeping the Transformers logo in the title, it flips round to a Porsche sign, which makes this spot tow the line between trailer and an ad for Porsche.
This isn’t unusual for the Transformers franchise, where product placement is an expected part of the formula, and it seems that this film will be no different.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts releases in cinemas on June 9, 2023.
