Hogwarts Legacy Release Date Announced

Article by Kieran Burt

Hogwarts Legacy is an upcoming video game set in the Harry Potter universe. Described by the official Hogwarts Legacy website as an “immersive open world RPG’ set in the 1880s, players will be able to forge their own legacy in an as of yet unexplored era for the Harry Potter series.

Despite the game first being leaked in 2018 before officially announced in 2020, the game has suffered a series of delays. Now, it looks like audiences will have to wait a little bit longer to play the open world adventure.

The Hogwarts Legacy twitter recently revealed that the game will release on February 10th 2023 for Playstation, PC and Xbox. The Nintendo Switch release date will be announced at a later date.

This is a minor delay from the previous date which was during the holiday period of 2022. However, it now puts a firm release date on the game, instead of a time period.

This announcement will no doubt be a cause of concern for Switch owners, as it means that they will have to wait even longer for the game.

The game is being developed by Avalanche Software, and being published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, under the label of Portkey Games, using the Unreal Engine.

There have been two trailers released for the game. The first one is the official announcement trailer for the game, released in 2020.

The second trailer was showcased earlier in 2022 at Sony’s State of Play, with nearly fifteen minutes of gameplay.

As the game is open world, it will be fully single player, and won’t include any form of multiplayer gameplay. The game will include many traditional open-world RPG elements, such as crafting, a morality system, the ability to choose your house (despite the presence of the Sorting Hat), and making your own character. The game will also allow trans-inclusive characters to be created.

One feature of both recent multiplayer and single player games that this game won’t have is microtransactions. The Community Manager of Warner Brother’s gaming arm, Chandler Wood, took to twitter to confirm that there will not be any microtransactions in the game.
