What Was Shown At The January Xbox Developers’ Direct

The Xbox Developers’ Direct showed off exciting gameplay for highly anticipated games. The first half of the year promises to be full of fantasy epics.  From the upcoming Avowed releasing in February to Doomed: The Dark Ages in May. On top of new gameplay, a remaster of 2008 classic Ninja Gaiden Black was announced. It’s available for Xbox Series X|S and PC players now.

  1. Ninja Gaiden 4

The next installment of the Ninja Gaiden franchise is set in a futuristic Tokyo. It features new protagonist Yakumo, member of the Raven clan and rival of the series regular Ryu Hayabusa. Who will still be a pivotal character in the story. As players battle against the Dark Dragon’s influence, Yakumo will have rail and wire abilities to move at lightning speed through the city. The trailer shows him avoiding a high speed train at the last second. Ninja Gaiden 4 is slated for a fall release.

  1. South of Midnight

South of Midnight is a southern gothic adventure from the developers of We Happy Few. Players will control Hazel as she travels a mythical south to find her mother. Each region is inspired by the creature that’s cursed to haunt it. Hazel will use her weaving powers to unravel enemies in combo based combat. She’ll also be able to conjure objects to help with environmental obstacles. South of Midnight gets an April 8th release date.

  1. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

In the latest trailer for Expedition 33, we see that a group of explorers with differences must confront an existential threat. The trailer showed off an extensive skill tree with twenty different skills for each character; with many more passives. Players will also be able to traverse a world map with the help of a companion. The story takes place in a fantastical 19th century France. It has a “Reactive Turn-Based” combat that includes dodging and parrying. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 releases on April 24th.

  1. Doom: The Dark Ages

The newest Doom installment will be a single player experience. Its combat will be grounded in comparison to Doom Eternal, making use of a shield saw and multiple melee weapons instead of a grappling hook. The shield will also come in handy since The Dark Ages has more chances to explore the Doom universe. Players will also get to pilot a giant mech as well as a cybernetic dragon. The Dark Ages releases on May 15th.
