What If…? Season 3 Official Trailer Reaction

Audiences have got their first look at the first trailer for ‘What If…?’ season three, along with the confirmation that this will be the last season. It’s a shame as there really is unlimited potential with this show, which could have spanned the continued lifespan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but alas. There is a tease of the differing scenarios that the writers of the show have come up with, along with the bigger threat that will threaten the new multiversal protectors.

Marvel Entertainment

Right away, audiences get a look a Sam Wilson as Captain America alongside Monica Rambeau on a red looking planet. This of course plays to Rambeau’s strength rather than Wilson’s, and it will be fun to see the dynamic between the two. The White Vision makes his first appearance in the show, alongside a returning Nebula, Groot and Korg. Other characters audiences get are Red Guardian and Bucky, which was something that was teased last year. Captain Peggy Carter is there as a cowboy, showcasing her position even further as a woman out of time. She seems to have found peace with a Cowboy Steve Rogers.

Continuing the trailer, audiences get more sporadic shots of characters and moments that will be fully fleshed out in the series, with Uatu The Watcher narrating. Howard the Duck even appears! It’s fantastic the love Marvel Studios continue to show this goofball of character, instead of banishing him to the basement where he arguably belongs. It’s humourous that he attempts to fly a ship, only to immediately reverse it into a hangar wall.

It appears there will be big stakes for every single multiverse, with Dormammu being present, as well as a planet being ripped apart. There is also a Mecha Captain America teased, a massive hulking Gundam robot piloted by Monica and Sam. That will be awesome to watch no doubt. It appears that won’t be the only Mech in the show, which is fantastic. Mechs are inherently cool. It appears they will all being joining together to build an Avenger Mech, Voltron style. That seems like it will be the finale, once everyone has been brought together across the multiverse.

Some more quick flashes of action flash by, with an old west bar fight, and Bucky and Red Guardian working closely together, no doubt preparing a contrast for their appearance in ‘Thunderbolts*’. Audiences get to see the Avengers A become a cosmic symbol, along with other mystical moments. The multiversal threat seems to be other Watchers, who explain this is where the story ends. It seems fitting they’re the final antagonists of the show, sick of Uatu’s meddling. The cosmic threat is dialled up even further with the appearance of a Celestial, showing that the show is stepping away from Earth.

But perhaps the biggest of all (aside from the mechs), is the introduction of Storm as the Goddess of Thunder. Finally, the X-Men will start to appear in the MCU, and it’s as a savoiur to whatever the heroes are fighting, some kind of octopus demon creature, not unlike something out of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. It’s going to be hugely exciting to see Storm in action, alongside the rest of the characters Marvel has assembled. A least this show will go out with a bang.

‘What If…?’ season three will have eight episodes and will premiere on December 22.
