TRON: Ares Official Trailer Reaction
The official trailer for ‘TRON: Ares’ has arrived, showing the arrival of AI warriors from the Grid going rogue. It’s an action packed tease that sees the return of Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, and a proper look at Ares, Jared Leto’s AI program that’s searching for a soul. Packed with gorgeous visuals, this trailer sets up the ‘TRON’ franchise for a fantastic return.
The trailer opens with an ominous shot of some kind of warship floating in through the city air, with fighter escort. This is likely midway through the film, as it’s immediately followed by heavy street fighting with AI that’s meant to protect humankind. Voiceover from the corporate stooge talks about flipping the vision of the world on its head, instead of humans going to virtual worlds to meet AI, instead AI will come to the real world. Ares is introduced, a red kitted soldier, which in the TRON franchise signals the bad guys. Indeed, audiences see red soldiers take down blue guards, likely the start of a worrying trend.
The executive continues to be boastful of his creation, showing that these AI can quickly reproduce in a flash. It’s scary technology, likely paralleling some of the scary Android and AI technology that’s fast becoming a reality in the real world. This business exec doesn’t care about any of the safety implications, and quickly begins to lose control of his AI minions. In the start of some amazing bright red Light Ribbon sequences, with them streaking against the night sky. The AIs lock off areas of the streets with their light cycles, and chop a police car in half lengthways. These stunning effects are what audiences can expect from the film.
Ares proves he’s much more than a simple programme however, as he wants to find something beyond his code. To his end, he seeks out Kevin Flynn from the original franchise, who finds the whole affair fascinating. The whole film looks to be fascinating too, teasing audiences with the amazing visuals that the first ‘TRON’ movie became a cult-classic for, and injecting it with modern commentary to ensure the film is relevant for today.
‘TRON: Ares’ hits cinemas on October 10.
