The Mandalorian & Grogu Casting Updates

While ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ might be more than a year away, audiences are now starting to get a better picture of some of the characters and cast that will be included in the film.

Jeremy Allen White, best known for his Emmy winning performance in ‘The Bear’, has joined the picture to voice Rotta the Hutt, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Rotta was first introduced all the way back in 2008 as Jabba the Hutt’s infant son in ‘The Clone Wars’ movie, and hasn’t been seen since.

In the film, Rotta is kidnapped by the bounty hunters, so the Separatists can return him to Jabba to gain control of key hyperspace lanes. They also orchestrated the plot.

The Jedi step in, save Rotta from his captors and return him to his father.

Rotta was not seen in the follow-up TV series on ‘The Clone Wars’, leading many fans to question what happened to him.

Jonny Coyne’s Imperial Warlord character will also return in ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’, Deadline reports.

While he currently has no name in canon, he does appear in ‘The Mandalorian’ season three as a member of the Shadow Council, where he brushes against Captain Gilad Pellaeon.

Conye’s Warlord is a big fan of plundering New Republic hyperspace lanes, but Pellaeon says that his “hit and run operations are gaining too much notice.”

The Shadow Council is formed of Imperial Remnants, with the overall goal of overthrowing the New Republic and reestablishing the Empire. A major part of this is Project Necromancer, which is likely code for resurrecting Palpatine.

Other characters set to appear in the film include Babu Frick from ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker’ and Zeb Orrelios from the animated show ‘Star Wars: Rebels’.

‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ will be directed by Jon Favreau, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Dave Filoni.

The film will fly into cinemas on May 22, 2026.
