The Biggest Animation News From Netflix’s Geeked Week

The past few days have been filled with announcements for upcoming Netflix projects. Geeked Week, the streaming titans annual showcase and celebration of their programming, ran from September 16 to 19, and has seen several new shows announced, along with sneak peeks at what we can expect over the next few months.

As usual, Netflix has continued to keep up a steady stream of high-quality animated projects, with some interesting new shows hitting the platform in 2025 that will keep fans of animation excited for their release.

There’s a lot to get through, but these are the big sci-fi and fantasy animation announcements from Geeked Week 2024!

Wolf King

An interesting new project is ‘Wolf King’, a show based on the Wereworld series of young adult novels from British author Curtis Jobling, which tells the story of Drew, a sixteen year old werewolf who discovers he’s the last surviving Wolf King.

Right now, details are short, except for a brief teaser trailer, but it looks to have coming of age themes, and is definitely one to keep an eye on. An exact date hasn’t been revealed, only that the show will be releasing some time in 2025.

Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance

Despite being in existence since the ’70s, the ‘Gundam’ franchise isn’t as well known in Western countries as in its native Japan. Netflix has been acquiring streaming rights to the franchise for a while, though, and the latest series could be your next animation obsession.

Set in a future where humans fight out wars using large mech suits, ‘Requiem for Vengeance’ promises themes of “conflict and love” mixed in with human drama. You won’t have to wait long to experience it, either, as the series drops on Netflix on October 17 this year.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep

One of Netflix’s most popular fantasy series, ‘The Witcher’ has been going through some changes, with Henry Cavill being replaced in the title role by Liam Hemsworth for the upcoming fourth season, which is expected in 2025. In the meantime, if you need more from this franchise, the animated movie ‘The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep’ will be coming to Netflix on February 11 next year.

An exclusive clip released for Geeked Week features Geralt and Jaskier, with the former being voiced by Doug Cockle, who played the character in the video games, and promises monsters and merpeople.

Devil May Cry

An animated adaptation of Capcom’s game, ‘Devil May Cry’ follows Dante, a demon hunter for hire, who holds the fate of the world in his hands. Details are few at the moment, but the teaser trailer hints at plenty of action, and a release date of April 2025 has been set.

Castlevania: Nocturne season 2

A second season of this ‘Castlevania’ spin-off is coming soon. Set in 18th century Revolutionary France, the show follows vampire hunter Richter Belmont, who leads a resistance against a ‘Vampire Messiah’ who wants to “eat the sun” and enslave humanity.

The second season of ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ will be arriving on Netflix in January 2025.

Dragon Prince: Mystery of Aaravos

The seventh and final season of this popular show, which has been running since 2018, is promised for December 17 this year. There’s not too much information on it yet, but the synopsis teases that “this season will be more thrilling, magical, and heartbreaking than ever”, so looks like it will be a fitting end to the show.

Magic: The Gathering

Lastly, something of a tease, as there are practically no details on this show, other than it being based on the popular trading card game. It’s being developed in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment and Wizards of the Coast, with Terry Matalis, co-showrunner of ‘Star Trek Picard’ leading the series.

Once again, Netflix has set up a strong slate of future animated projects for the rest of 2024 and 2025, and it will be exciting to see where these shows go, as more information is released. It shows that the streaming giant is still one of the best places to go if you’re an animation fan.
