The Best Sci-Fi and Fantasy to Watch This Week
As we enter a new month, August serves up some great new movies and shows to check out, as one of Netflix’s most popular series returns for its second season after a three-year wait, and you can also now see one of this summer’s biggest hits on your own TV screen.
Eyes of Wakanda
All episodes now streaming on Disney+
At the end of last week, Marvel quietly dropped a whole new series onto Disney+. This was ‘Eyes of Wakanda’, a four-part anthology series, following warriors throughout history from the isolated African state, travelling the world to retrieve valuable artifacts made from the precious metal Vibranium from their enemies.
This has seemingly gone almost unnoticed, but if you’re looking for some more Marvel content, or want to return to Wakanda for the first time since 2022 then check it out.
Freakier Friday
In theaters from 8 August
A sequel to the 2003 movie ‘Freaky Friday’ which saw mother and daughter switch places into each other’s bodies. Now, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back to reprise their roles, but things are about to get even freakier, as mother, daughter, granddaughter and step-daughter all switch places.
Wednesday season 2
Episodes 1 to 4 streaming 6 August on Netflix
The second season of one of Netflix’s most popular shows is arriving this week! Based on the classic ‘Addams Family’, the show follows Wednesday Addams as she attends Nevermore Academy, a school for “unusual” children.
It’s been three years since we last caught up with Wednesday, and Netflix are only dropping the first four episodes this month, with the other half to follow in September.
Jurassic World: Rebirth
Available to rent or buy on Digital 5 August
One of the biggest hits of the year is coming to digital soon. ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ has brought in over $700 million at the box office, and is still bringing in the bucks. It’s not exactly a great movie, and feels like the most low-effort entry in the franchise, but clearly that’s not deterring audiences from seeing it. So if you want to bring some dinosaur action to your small screen, now you can.
