The Batman – Part II Delayed to 2027
‘The Batman – Part II’ will come out in 2027 now, as Warner Bros. Discovery pushes the film out of 2026.
The film was originally scheduled to come out on October 2, 2026, but will now come out on October 1, 2027.
The 2026 release slot has been taken by Tom Cruise and Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s upcoming project.
Gunn confirmed the delay on the social media platform Threads.
“Sure. Yes, it is true,” Gunn said.
“The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write.
“Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”
‘The Batman – Part II’ has gone through several delays, with the film first scheduled to release on October 3, 2025, before being delayed to 2026 earlier this year due to the effects of the 2023 Hollywood actors and writers strikes.
‘The Batman’ released back in March 2022 and featured Robert Pattinson in the role of the Caped Crusader, with Matt Reeves directing.
Both Reeves and Pattinson will return for ‘Part II’.
Other returning crew members include cinematographer Greig Fraser and Colin Farrell as Penguin.
It’s unclear what the second installment will focus on, but the end of the first film teased Paul Dano’s The Riddler in Arkham State Hospital with Barry Keoghan’s Joker.
A previous report has suggested Batman villain Clayface will have a major role in the film, but that remains unconfirmed.
‘The Batman’ was a hit with critics and fans, and in 2024 produced a spin-off TV show focusing on Farrell’s Penguin, which was also a critical success.
