The Acolyte Reportedly Not Moving Forward With Season 2

‘The Acolyte’ will not be returning for a season two on Disney+, Deadline reports.

This news comes after a month of the series wrapping up on the streaming service.

The series came from creator, director, executive producer and showrunner Leslye Headland, who previously expressed that she had plans for multiple seasons of the show.

‘The Acolyte’ was mildly received by critics, garnering a 78% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, but divided ‘Star Wars’ fans, with strong feelings of both love and hate expressed.

Viewership took the force of this controversy, getting off to a good start with 4.8M views when it launched on June 4 with two episodes, which rose globally to 11.1 million after five days of streaming.

The series managed to make Nielsen’s Top 10 originals chart in its premiere week at number seven with 488 million minutes viewed, climing to number six the next week.

But this momentum wasn’t to last, as it would subsequently drop out of the top ten, only returning at number 10 after the release of its final episode with 335 million minutes viewed, which is the lowest of any ‘Star Wars’ fnale.

‘The Acolyte’ was the first live-action show set in the High Republic era, a mystery-thriller spanning eight episodes.

A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

Amandla Stenberg serves as the series lead, alongside regulars like Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman and Carrie-Anne Moss.

It reportedly cost $180 million to create.
