The 5 Wildest DC Superhero Team-Ups You Won’t Believe Happened

DC Comics is known for its seemingly endless cast of heroes in its vast universes. Thus, the
franchise has become very skilled at assembling legendary superhero teams, some classic,
and others completely unexpected. Sometimes though, the publisher throws together
characters so wildly different to work together that it feels like comic book mad science.
Whether it’s supernatural forces colliding with street-level crimefighters or cosmic warriors
teaming up with sword-wielding royalty, these team-ups prove that DC isn’t afraid to
experiment.

  1. Deadman & Nightwing: A Supernatural Duo

Nightwing has always been a hero who relies on his acrobatics, detective skills, and sheer
determination. Deadman, on the other hand, is… well, dead. As a ghost who can possess the
living, Deadman quite literally operates on an entirely different plane of existence. When the
two team up, it’s a whacky mix of mystery, acrobatics, and eerie paranormal encounters.
One of their most striking collaborations happens in Batman: The Brave and the Bold #13
(2024), where Nightwing and Deadman are tasked with investigating an unsettling case
involving the “ghosts of the circus.” With both heroes tied to the acrobatics world— Dick
having left the life of theatrics as a child, and the other who left as a spirit doomed to walk
the Earth— it’s a surprisingly fitting alliance. Deadman’s ability to take over Nightwing’s
body adds an extra layer of tension, leaving Dick Grayson momentarily powerless while his
own form is used as a tool for ghostly justice.

  1. Deadman, The Sandman & Damian Wayne: Battling Nightmares
    Together

It’s one thing to fight crime in the waking world, but what happens when threats invade the
realm of dreams? Here’s where Knight Terrors (2023) comes in, DC’s horror entry where the
nightmares of heroes and villains become all too real. In Knight Terrors #3, Deadman joins
forces with Wesley Dodds (the original Sandman) and Damian Wayne, forming one of the
strangest trios in DC history.
While Deadman’s ghostly nature makes him an unusual but effective ally in dream-based
combat, Sandman comes with his deep knowledge of dreams and adds an air of noir detective
work to the mix. Damian, always the skeptic, is thrown headfirst into a supernatural battle
that tests his ability to navigate a world where logic and strategy mean nothing. The result is a
surreal and unsettling adventure where fists, phantoms, and dreamscapes collide.

  1. Batman & Joe Chill: A Dark Alliance

In Batman: Year Two (1987), Batman forms an unexpected partnership with Joe Chill, the
very man responsible for his parents’ murder. This intense team-up is not born out of
friendship, but rather necessity, as they must join forces to confront a new threat: The Reaper.
Chill, who seeks redemption for his past crimes, teams up with Batman to stop The Reaper, a
vigilante who uses lethal methods that push Batman’s moral boundaries. The dynamic
between the two is fraught with tension; Batman’s desire for justice clashes with Chill’s quest
for forgiveness, making their alliance one of the most compelling and complex in Batman’s
history. This unlikely partnership emphasizes the themes of redemption and vengeance while
showcasing the darker sides of both characters.

  1. Guy Gardner & Batman: The Ultimate Odd Couple

Batman and Guy Gardner have butted heads plenty of times, but on rare occasions, they’ve
found themselves on the same side. Guy, the often-obnoxious Green Lantern with an ego the
size of a planet, and Batman, the no-nonsense Dark Knight, have fundamentally different
approaches to heroism. That’s what makes their dynamic so electric.

In Batman: The Brave and the Bold #14 (2024), the two are forced to work together when a
UFO crashes in Gotham, throwing them into a case that’s out of both their comfort zones.
Batman tries to methodically break down the mystery, while Guy’s impulsive actions
naturally lead to them clashing more than a few times. Watching them begrudgingly rely on
each other to solve an extraterrestrial crisis is peak superhero storytelling, proving that even
the most incompatible heroes can function as a team when the stakes get high enough.

  1. Deadman & The Flying Graysons: A Circus Connection Beyond Death

In an alternate reality, Deadman’s fate intertwines with the Flying Graysons in the classic
Flashpoint: Deadman and the Flying Graysons (2011). Set in the war-torn world of
Flashpoint, this version of Deadman (Boston Brand) never becomes the wandering ghost we
know. Instead, he remains a performer alongside the Grayson family, traveling through a
Europe ravaged by war.
This storyline strips away the super heroics and focuses on the personal bonds between these
acrobats, creating an emotional throughline that feels fresh for a DC story. Seeing Boston
Brand interact with the family of the boy who, in another timeline, would become Nightwing
adds an extra layer of tragedy. Here, instead of guiding spirits, he’s fighting alongside the
living.
