The 2024 Game Of The Year Nominees

A lot of great games have come out in 2024. Everything from strategy games like Balatro or Frostpunk 2 to hits like Black Myth: Wukong and Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree will be showcased. The Game Awards have announced the nominees for which title could walk away with the “Game of the Year” award. Voting is open to the public now and the award show takes place on December 12th. Here are the nominees.

  1. Astro Bot

Astro Bot is the sequel to Astro’s Playroom. It features fifty planets to explore while meeting icon characters from well loved PlayStation games. Players get to dress up Astro as easily recognizable Kratos from God of War, among other heroes. Use a variety of animal themed gadgets to scale walls, fly, and rocket boost into enemies. It has a vibrant world with unique characters and is full of humor. Players can celebrate the publisher’s history, even if they’re new to the franchise.

  1. Balatro

Balatro is a combination of rogue-like mechanics and deck building. Players can unlock hidden decks as they play through the campaign. As well as Jokers with variants that all have unique abilities, 22 major arcana Tarot Cards, Planet Cards Spectral Cards, and vouchers to buff your deck. Use these cards to create over the top combos that can sidetrack your run at any second. As a rogue-like it will take multiple playthroughs to fully discover what decks and secrets await.

  1. Black Myth: Wukong

Black Myth: Wukong is the breakout action RPG based on Journey to the West; one of China’s great classic novels. Players travel through distinct landscapes filled with strangely fascinating creatures from folklore. There’s in-depth gameplay that gives players the freedom to mix and match spells, staff skills, transformations, and armor as needed. Battles take place on a grand scale. Players get to tackle them in a way that’s unique to them, while also discovering the twisting motivations behind each character.

  1. Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

In Shadow of the Erdtree, players continue their journey as Tarnished. It includes new areas and enemies. Players will also get new items that combine offense and defense. Players will learn the mystery surrounding Miquella and Marika. While it’s just as visually stunning with an equally amazing soundtrack, Shadow of the Erdtree is also the only DLC included on the list of nominees.

  1. Final Fantasy Rebirth

Final Fantasy Rebirth is the second release a part of the Final Fantasy Remake. This introduces new elements into the familiar story. Players will travel from Midgar to The Forgotten Capital. New synergy abilities were added to the action combat introduced in the previous release. This helps make the story fresh for new players. Or anyone who prefers the fast paced combat of later games in the franchise.

  1. Metaphor: ReFantazio

Metaphor: ReFantazio is an RPG where players fight to remove a prince’s curse. The throne is empty, but the only person who can rule must earn the people’s vote. Players will be able to trawl through dungeons and hunt for treasures during the day. At night, they must build relationships and virtue within the allotted time. Metaphor’s combat is a mix of real time and turn based to add some strategy into each encounter. There’s a wide world for everyone to enjoy, whether or not they’re familiar with the ATLUS Persona games.
