‘Stranger Things 5’ Sets Release Date

One of Netflix’s biggest hits is returning this year, and we finally have confirmation of a release date for ‘Stranger Things’ season five, as the streamer dropped the news during their live Tudum event on Saturday.

Netflix has confirmed that the show will be arriving this year, providing relief for fans who feared it could be delayed to 2026.

The show will be arriving in three volumes, the first of these, comprising episodes one to four, will be released on November 26. Volume two will follow a month later on December 25, including episodes five to seven. The final episode will drop on New Year’s Eve, marking the end for the show after more than nine years.

It’s a break from Netflix’s usual strategy to drop all episodes at once in a binge format, but it’s not unknown for them to split up popular shows. Last year ‘Arcane’ season two was released in a trio of three-episode arcs, a week apart, and they also released season four of ‘Stranger Things’ in two parts back in 2022.

The bigger question is the choice of timing. The first episode will debut just a few weeks after Stranger Things Day, which happens every year on November 6. This is the date in the show that the first episode takes place, with the disappearance of Will Byers, so would have been a neat way to bring the story full circle. It also seems like an odd choice to leave viewers hanging for a month until volume two, especially with how many spoilers and leaks surface online around major releases. It will probably help with their ratings though, as last year, the second season of ‘Squid Game’ was released on Boxing Day and was a huge hit for Netflix, so bringing in the holiday audience is no doubt part of their plan.

So, if you’re a ‘Stranger Things’ fan, clear your calendars for later this year, as season five is looking to be an emotional, epic end to the show.
