Starfield Reportedly Headed to PS5 in 2026

For a long time, the idea of Bethesda’s massive space RPG, Starfield, coming to PlayStation
seemed like a dream. As a flagship exclusive for the Xbox and PC, the game was a key part of
Microsoft’s strategy following its acquisition of ZeniMax Media. However, a recent shift in
Microsoft’s multi-platform strategy has opened the door to new possibilities.

Reports from multiple sources, including IGN and MP1st, now indicate that Microsoft is planning
to release a PS5 version of Starfield in the spring of 2026. This move would be a major
development for the gaming industry. The reports suggest that the release may be timed to
coincide with a second major expansion for the game, as well as a number of other
quality-of-life updates.

The decision to bring Starfield to a wider audience on the PS5 reportedly follows a period of
mixed reception and underwhelming sales for its first expansion, Shattered Space. By launching
on a new platform, Microsoft and Bethesda may be hoping to give the game a second life,

attracting a new wave of players who previously couldn’t experience the sprawling universe of
the Settled Systems.

PS5 owners who have been waiting to jump into Starfield’s cosmos might not have to wait much
longer, though they should keep an eye out for an official announcement and release date from
Bethesda or Microsoft before getting their hopes up too high.
