Star Wars: Dark Forces to get a remaster
Nightdive Studios have announced they are working with Lucasfilm Games to remaster the 1995 game ‘Star Wars: Dark Forces’.
While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, the studio has confirmed the game will be released on Xbox One, PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S.
This announcement was accompanied by a short trailer, showing the game’s title will be ‘Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster’.
It will include several upgrades, such as 4K resolution and 120FPS depending on the platform.
There will also be advanced 3D rendering, modern gamepad support, and achievements.
Nightdive Studios is best known for making the 2023 ‘System Shock’ remake.
‘Star Wars: Dark Forces’ was originally released on February 28, 1995, for PC and in 1996 for the PlayStation.
It follows the mercenary Kyle Katarn as he works with the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War.
It saw the introduction of Dark Troopers into the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, advanced battle droids, and exoskeletons for infantry.
While ‘Star Wars: Dark Forces’ and the Dark Troopers were labeled as belonging to ‘Star Wars’ Legends after Disney acquired Lucasfilm, the droids made their way back into ‘Star Wars’ Canon in 2020.
In the second season of ‘The Mandalorian’, Moff Gideon develops a platoon of Dark Troopers aboard his ship, and uses them to capture Grogu, aka Baby Yoda.
The Disney+ show ‘Andor’ makes a reference to the ‘Star Wars: Dark Forces’ game, with Cassian Andor wielding a Bryar pistol, a weapon made famous for its use by Kyle Katarn.
The story the game tells will remain as part of the Legends continuity.
