Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Renewed for Season 2; Tatiana Maslany to Guest Star in Season 1

‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ has already picked up an early season two renewal, and  Tatiana Maslany will guest star in the first season.

This news beams down to fans from the ‘Star Trek’ panel at New York Comic Con. 

Robert Picardo, known to ‘Star Trek’ fans for his roles in ‘Star Trek: Voyager’ and ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’, made a surprise appearance and introduced a livestream from the set of season one, which is currently in production in Toronto.

Executive producer and co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman, who is also directing the series, made an appearance on the video to talk to fans, and shared the news of a season two renewal. 

He was just by castmembers including Sandro Rosta, Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané and Zoë Steiner.

Maslany’s character is unknown at the moment, but it has been confirmed that she will be a recurring character in the first season, alongside characters played by Paul Giamatti and Holly Hunter.

Giamatti will play the role of the season’s central villain, while Hunter will play the role of the school’s captain and chancellor. 

According to the show’s description, the upcoming series will follow a young group of cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy and come together to pursue “a common dream of hope and optimism.”

The synopsis reads: “Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”

‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ was announced back in March 2023, but as of yet doesn’t have a release date. 

Kurtzman will serve as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Noga Landau.
