Star Trek San Diego Comic-Con 2023 reveal round up
While many big franchise names were absent from San Diego Comic-Con this year, “Star Trek” decided to boldly go to the convention. It’s great that Paramount still held the panel, because it brought fans many surprises, including several trailers for audiences to watch.
A new, action-packed clip from the upcoming “Star Trek: Discovery” season five was released, featuring Sonequa Martin-Green as Captain Burnham and some of the new faces from season 5, Callum Keith Rennie as Rayner, Elias Toufexis as L’ak and Eve Harlow as Moll.
It looks brilliant, with the fifth and final season of the show seeing the crew uncovering an ancient power whose existence has been deliberately kept hidden from the galaxy.
But other, dangerous powers at seeking out the power too, and will stop at nothing to get it.
Season five of the show will release on Paramount+ in early 2024.
Another awesome trailer audiences got was the season four trailer of the animated comedy “Star Trek: Lower Decks”.
This minute-and-a-half clip showed crews getting destroyed by a mysterious foe, and unfortunately, the U.S.S. Cerritos will have to find out what’s happening, even though it’s way above their pay grade.
There is also a funny jab at the recent crossover with “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” that recently aired, with Ensign Beckett Mariner and Ensign Brad Boimler sharing a joke about what happened.
Art for the show paying homage to “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home” was revealed.
Finally, as though this wasn’t enough, Paramount+ has confirmed that the fourth season will release on September 7, with two new episodes.
Turning to “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”, audiences learned that the ninth episode is a musical, a first for the “Star Trek” franchise. The episode is called ‘Subspace Rhapsody’.
This happens because of a subspace anomaly, creating a wave passing through the show and compelling the crew to sing.
Audiences will get 10 brand-new songs to listen to. There will be a ‘Subspace Rhapsody’ version of the show’s theme.
Kay Hanley and Tom Polce created the music and lyrics for the special episode.
A teaser trailer for the episode was released, showing the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise led by Anson Mount’s Christopher Pike singing along to a fantastic song.
Not only that, but Paul Wesley’s Lieutenant James T. Kirk himself will be back, belting out in song.
‘Subspace Rhapsody’ will be released on Paramount+ on August 3.
Paramount+ also confirmed the release dates for the rest of the second season and had a surprise for fans.
The highly anticipated crossover with “Lower Decks”, which saw Jack Quaid and Tawny Newsome take on the live-action versions of themselves, was released early, on July 22.
Episode eight, titled ‘Under the Cloak of War’ will release on July 27, episode nine, titled ‘Subspace Rhapsody’, on August 3, and the season finale titled ‘Hegemony’ on August 10.
And that concludes the reveals at the “Star Trek” panel at SDCC for 2023!
