Sonic the Hedgehog Speeds into Magic: The Gathering

Get ready, Magic: The Gathering and Sonic the Hedgehog fans, because the iconic blue blur
and his friends are dashing into the multiverse! Wizards of the Coast has announced a new
“Secret Lair Sonic Superdrop,” bringing beloved characters and items from the Sega universe to
the popular trading card game.

Unlike full, draftable sets like the recent Final Fantasy collaboration, the Sonic crossover arrives
in the form of three distinct Secret Lair drops, designed as limited-time, direct-to-consumer
releases. These drops are set to go on sale starting July 14, 2025, at 9 AM PT, with a non-foil
version of one set, “Friends & Foes,” also hitting WPN stores on August 21st.

The Secret Lair Sonic Superdrop consists of the following:

Secret Lair x Sonic: Friends & Foes: This is the headline act, featuring seven
brand-new, mechanically unique Magic cards. Players can look forward to seeing familiar
faces like Sonic the Hedgehog, Shadow the Hedgehog, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles
the Echidna, Amy Rose, and Dr. Eggman, each with abilities that reflect their in-game
personas. Also included is the powerful enchantment Super State, representing the
iconic Super Sonic transformation. These new cards are legal in Commander, Legacy,
and Vintage formats.
Secret Lair x Sonic: Turbo Gear: This drop reimagines existing Magic artifact cards
with a distinct Sonic twist. Expect to see fan-favorite equipment and vehicles like
Swiftfoot Boots as “Air Shoes,” Lightning Greaves as “Power Sneakers,” and even the
legendary vehicle Weatherlight transforming into “Tornado, Sonic’s Biplane.”
Secret Lair x Sonic: Chasing Adventure: While details are still emerging, this set
promises to feature more Magic staple spell cards adorned with vibrant Sonic-themed
artwork, rounding out the thematic offerings.

This collaboration is part of Magic: The Gathering’s “Universes Beyond” initiative, which
continues to integrate popular franchises into the game’s rich tapestry. Fans of both Magic and
Sonic will want to be quick, as Secret Lair drops are known for their limited availability and often
sell out at lightning speed.
