‘Silo’ Season 2, Episode 8 Review

As we approach the end of season two of ‘Silo’ on AppleTV+, we’re shown more of the silo’s history and just why the truth is being hidden from its inhabitants.

One of the biggest surprises this season is the role of Lukas Kyle. I never expected the guy who sat alone drawing the stars in the night sky to become such a big deal, but now he’s Holland’s shadow, even though he doesn’t seem to be a good fit for the role. Maybe his different methods will prove effective, after all, he was successful in getting the book he wanted from Quinn’s descendants, but he could be the weak link in Holland’s plan, as he doesn’t appear to have the strength to stand up to guys like Sims. Perhaps he’ll be the product of unfortunate circumstances that will defeat the mayor.

Now that we know a part of the mystery of the silo, that Quinn wasn’t a villain, he was actually a hero (depending on how you look at it) who saved the silo from constant rebellions by destroying all the connections to the past, like books and records, and using the memory wipe drug from Judicial to make the inhabitants forget.

It’s a cruel irony that the very thing that brought the silo peace for 140 years is now going to be the thing that pulls them into another war. Do the Founders (whoever they were) really have all the answers?

But what about the other silos? Do they not have the same problems? Do they know the whole truth about their history, and why the silos were built in the first place? If they do, then it’s possible that Juliette will be able to find out and take the knowledge back to her silo, and perhaps even stop an all-out conflict.

I wonder who those other folk are in the other silo? I thought that Solo had been a Kid when the war happened, but they don’t look so old, so does that mean they were born after the rebellion, or that he lied about who he went to school with. I always thought he’d been in there for years, maybe even decades, but that would be a big change if these people had been forced to survive that long in the dark, watery silo.

We’re fast approaching the end of season two, with only a couple of episodes left, and there’s a lot to do before the finale. It’s likely this season will also end on a cliffhanger like the first, as there are another two in the works, but this was a packed episode that did a lot of work in setting out the board for the final few moves that will bring us to the end of the season.
