Popular Sci-Fi Action Game ‘Halo’ Rumored for 2026 Return

The iconic sci-fi shooter franchise, Halo, is abuzz with speculation regarding a major return in

  1. While an entirely new mainline installment, often referred to as “Halo 7,” is still a ways off,
strong hints from Xbox suggest that the year will mark the return of a true classic.

During the recent Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer teased a
significant lineup for 2026, including Fable, the next Forza title, and Gears of War: E-Day.
Crucially, Spencer also mentioned “the return of a classic that’s been with us since the
beginning.” This statement has been widely interpreted as a direct reference to Halo, specifically
a potential remaster of Halo: Combat Evolved. It’s important to note that this rumored 2026
release is likely a remaster, not a brand-new Halo game.

The original Halo: Combat Evolved received a remaster in 2011 with Halo: Combat Evolved
Anniversary, which was later included in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. A new remaster in
2026 would likely offer a more substantial overhaul, potentially leveraging the power of Unreal
Engine 5 to deliver a truly modern visual experience while retaining the core gameplay that
made the original a landmark title.

With 2026 marking the 25th anniversary of Xbox, a high-profile return for its flagship franchise
would undoubtedly be a major celebration. Fans are eagerly awaiting official confirmation and
more details, hoping that this rumored Halo: Combat Evolved remaster will be the first step
towards a revitalized future for Master Chief and the fight against the Covenant.
