New Star Wars trilogy reportedly in the works from Simon Kinberg

A new ‘Star Wars’ trilogy is reportedly in the works from Simon Kinberg, Deadline reports.

Kinberg will write the scripts for the three films, along with producing the films.

Deadline continues this by saying that this will be episodes 10 through 12, and will start a new saga focusing on a new set of characters.

Kinberg has previously worked for Lucasfilm, co-creating ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck. ‘Rebels’ ran for four seasons from 2014-2018.

He also worked as a consultant on ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’, the 2015 franchise revival directed by J.J. Abrams.

Franchise films are no stronger to Kinberg, as he’s been heavily involved with the ‘X-Men’ films and spinoffs. Earlier this year, Kinbery executive produced ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, which grossed over $1 billion globally.

Other films Kinberg has worked on include the Ridley Scott directed ‘The Martian’, co-wrote the first Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law ‘Sherlock’ film, and produced the Kenneth Branagh Agatha Christie film trilogy that started with Murder on the Orient Express.

Lucasfilm and Disney haven’t commented on the report.

There are several ‘Star Wars’ films percolating at the studio, a feature on Rey Skywalker directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a film set 25,000 years before ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’ from James Mangold, a film focusing on the New Republic and Imperial Remnant war from Dave Filoni, one on Lando Calrissian from Donald Glover, and ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ from Jon Favreau.

Lucasfilm has had several attempts to get a new ‘Star Wars’ film into cinemas after the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga with ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker’ in 2019.

These include the indefinite delay on Patty Jenkins’ ‘Rogue Squadron’, films from Kevin Feige, J.D. Dillard and Guillermo Del Toro.
