Matt Smith Cast as Villain in Star Wars: Starfighter

Matt Smith, best known as the Eleventh Doctor in ‘Doctor Who’, and Daemon Targaryen from ‘House of the Dragon’, has been cast as one of the villains in the upcoming ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’. Deadline first reported the news.

This isn’t the first time Smith has been associated to the franchise, as the actor was in talks to join ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker’, though they didn’t pan out.

He will have a villainous role in the film, joining Mia Goth as an evil force in the galaxy.

Lucasfilm has not commented on the story.

‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ will be directed by Shawn Levy, starring Ryan Gosling and written by Jonathan Tropper.

It currently has a release date of May 28, 2027.

This will be released roughly one year after 2026’s ‘Star Wars’ film ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, which will star Pedro Pascal as the eponymous bounty hunter and his adopted son Grogu, who is the same species as Jedi Master Yoda.

The plot of ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ is currently unknown, though the film will be set five years after the events of ‘Rise of Skywalker’.

The film was a surprise announcement at Star Wars Celebration Japan back in April 2025, and will begin shooting in Autumn 2025.

The next release in a galaxy far far away will be the four-part LEGO special, ‘LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past’ to relase on Disney+ on September 19.

‘Star Wars: Visions’ season three will follow this on October 29.
