Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes trailer recap

The first trailer for the upcoming fourth film in the ‘Planet of the Apes’ saga has been released, showcasing the new world audiences will be exposed to when the film is released in 2024. It teases a foreign world to what audiences might remember, and intriguing new possibilities.

The opening few seconds acquaint audiences with the fact that apes are now the dominant species on the planet, with the Simian Flu virus causing the collapse of humanity. Apes have developed their own society and are joined by other ape species like orangutans. This film takes place several generations after Matt Reeves’ films.

Noa, voiced by Owen Teague, will be the main monkey in the movie, attempting to find his way through the world. It seems that he will come across a human girl who witnesses the monkey monarchs attacking several primitive humans, and attempt to protect her. The apes are split into two factions, one group that supports humans and the other that subjugates them.

Not only have the monkeys built their own society, but they’re fairly adept at using advanced technology like electric stun batons to try and keep control. Apes are seen exploring human ruins throughout the latter half of the teaser, including a telescope station.

Finally, the last moments tease a climactic conflict with some monkeys wearing armour, with their leader claiming that it’s a wonderful day. It’s not clear what that means, but it looks like a new war will erupt in the monkey world, no doubt one that Noa will play a pivotal role.

The synopsis of the film states that “As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.”

‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ will release in cinemas on May 24, 2024.
