Jon Bernthal Returning As The Punisher In A Disney+ Special
After Jon Bernthal plays the role of Frank Castle in the upcoming ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ series, he will return to the character for a special on Disney+ under the Marvel Studios Special Presentation Banner.
Bernthal will also co-write the special alongside Reinaldo Marcus Green, the ‘King Richard’ and ‘One Love’ director.
Green will also direct the special for Marvel Studios.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel Television boss Brad Winderbaum teased what audiences could expect.
“It’s like a shotgun blast of a story,” he says.
“It’s so exciting. … Bernthal is a generational actor. He’s incredible, what he brings to all the roles he plays, but particularly Frank Castle. And he’s a great writer. He knows the character inside and out,“ he added.
Marvel Studios has previously done Special Presentations, titled ‘Werewolf By Night’, released in 2022 and the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ released in 2023.
Bernthal has previously played The Punisher in the second season of the Netflix ‘Daredevil’ series, before headlining two seasons based on the character.
The character made his first debut into Marvel Comics in February 1974.
Frank Castle is a grizzled military veteran, proficient with many kinds of weapons and keen to get violent revenge on those who have wronged him.
In 2004, Lionsgate Films and Marvel Entertainment released a film titled ‘The Punisher’, starring Thomas Jane as the titular antihero.
It’s unclear when this Disney+ special will be released on the platform.
