Invincible Presents- Atom Eve Has A Compelling, Relatable Narrative Between Alien Battles
Invincible Presents: Atom Eve is a comic style adventure with turn-based combat. It’s easy to get into without any prior knowledge since the story is told in an episodic format. Each chapter also has its own villain. The story does focus on Atom Eve’s personal relationships and high school struggles on top of having a secret identity. It’s typical comic book fare, but with a short enough runtime that it doesn’t become boring.
The side characters are also given enough screen time to feel rounded out, without bogging the game down. This is a linear game with no chance to explore the world if you’re a fan who wants to see more. Battles are fairly simple. The game will signal what moves the enemy is about to make. As soon as you’ve memorized each pattern each battle loses its excitement.
Atom Eve does have a skill tree and an energy bar. This determines what moves are available each round. So one move can’t be counted on by itself and some thought has to go into what’s picked when. Abilities can be reset later on if you’d like to experiment with different options. There’s also a lot of narrative decisions that can be made that determine the outcome. While the game may be simple, that works in its favor.
Though the story is one of self-discovery, there will be things like blood splatter that fits the world’s more mature theme. Atom Eve doesn’t feel like it’s been watered down for a more general audience. Which makes it a great experience for fans and newcomers. It has vibrant colors that make scenes really stand out. Playing Atom Eve feels as close as possible to stepping into a comic book.
