If You’re a Fan of Assasin’s Creed: Shadows, a New Update is Now Live

Ubisoft has just released Title Update 1.0.6 for its recently launched title, Assassin’s
Creed: Shadows, bringing a host of new features, quality-of-life improvements, and a
challenging new difficulty mode for players. The update, which went live on June 25, 2025, is a
significant addition for fans looking to deepen their experience in Feudal Japan.

The most notable addition is the new Nightmare Difficulty setting. As the name implies, this
mode is designed for veteran players seeking the ultimate challenge. According to Ubisoft, this
setting impacts both combat and stealth, forcing players to be more tactical and aware of their
surroundings. Enemies are smarter and more aggressive, defensive options are less effective,
and parries require perfect timing to deflect incoming damage. Furthermore, combat resources
are much harder to come by, making resource management a critical part of survival.

In a surprising and exciting collaboration, the update also introduces a new, free story quest
called “A Critical Encounter.” This mission features Rufino, a character from the Assassin’s
Creed Shadows one-shot campaign by the popular D&D web series, Critical Role. Voiced by
Robbie Daymond, players can recruit Rufino as a new ally after completing the “Way of the
Blacksmith” quest and unlocking Yasuke as a playable character. This collaboration adds a
unique narrative element and a new trophy/achievement for players to earn.

Beyond the major content additions, the update includes several highly requested quality-of-life
features that players can expect, which will enhance the game drastically.

The update, which is a hefty download (up to 19GB on Xbox Series X/S), is available now on
PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, demonstrating Ubisoft’s ongoing commitment to
post-launch support for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.
