How to Train Your Dragon 2 Live-Action Remake Announced at CinemaCon

A ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ live-action remake has been announced by Universal to release in cinemas in 2027 at CinemaCon.

It will fly into cinemas on June 11, 2027, just a week after Sony’s ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’

The first remake of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ will soar into cinemas later in 2025, arriving on June 13.

“We are so excited to give your theaters a big summer title in two years’ time,” the franchise’s director Dean DeBlois said on stage at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. He was joined by Gerard Butler, who portrays Stoick the Vast, as well as Nico Parker, who plays Hiccup’s love interest.

‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is based on a series of children’s books by Cressida Cowell, first released in 2003. She wrote a total of 12 books in the series.

It follows a group of Vikings as they survive in a world populated with dragons and other raiders.

Universal obtained the rights to adapt the movie, and opted to tell a different tale to the novels.

Director Dean DeBlois has helmed all three instalments of the animated films and returned to direct the live-action adaptation of the first movie.

Combined, the film trilogy, made up of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, released in 2010, ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ released in 2014, and ‘How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World’, released in 2019, made $1.6 billion worldwide and have received four Oscar nominations
