Helldivers 2 to Release on Xbox Series X|S in August
‘Helldivers 2’ will officially release on Xbox Series X|S on August 26.
This will be the first Sony-published game to hit Xbox stores, which further reduces the idea of console exclusivity in the gaming space.
Fans learned of this announcement in a ‘Helldivers 2’ livestream, and it has also been confirmed that there will be full crossplay with both PC and PlayStation, enabling friends to play together across different systems.
The game is available to pre-order on the Xbox store now.
Game director Mikael Eriksson told Xbox Wire: “We know gamers have been asking for this for some time and we are so excited to bring more Helldivers into our game. We have so much more in store for the future months and years – and the more players we have the more stories we can tell! The fight for Super Earth has only just begun.”
Community manager Katherine Baskin has confirmed that the game will “definitely not” be coming to Microsoft’s gaming subscription model, Xbox Game Pass.
‘Helldivers 2’ is a co-op third-person PvE shooter developed by Arrowhead, and sees players take on the role of a Helldiver, as they fight to defeat the enemies of Super Earth, like the robot automations, bug-like Terminids and the alien Illuminati.
It was released in February last year to critical and commercial success selling 12 million copies in 12 weeks, and its player count has remained healthy throughout this time.
