First Look at “Project Hail Mary” Blasts Off with Ryan Gosling in Thrilling Trailer

Fans of Andy Weir’s “The Martian” have reason to celebrate as Amazon MGM Studios has
officially released the first trailer for the highly anticipated film adaptation of his latest novel,
Project Hail Mary. The nearly three-minute preview, which was initially unveiled to audiences at
April’s CinemaCon, is now available to the public, offering a compelling glimpse into the
high-stakes, amnesia-fueled space adventure starring Ryan Gosling.

The trailer, which dropped on Monday, June 30, 2025, wastes no time in establishing the dire
premise: the sun is dying, and humanity’s last hope rests on the shoulders of Ryland Grace
(Gosling), a school teacher who awakens on a spaceship light-years from Earth with no memory
of who he is or his mission. As his memory slowly returns in fragmented bursts, Grace pieces
together the horrifying truth: he’s been sent to the Tau Ceti solar system to find a way to reverse
the catastrophic solar dimming event that threatens to plunge Earth into an irreversible ice age.

A significant reveal in the trailer, and one that will undoubtedly excite book fans, is the first look
at Rocky, the beloved alien character who becomes Grace’s unexpected companion and
collaborator. While details of Rocky’s full appearance are kept somewhat shrouded to preserve
some of the book’s surprises, the glimpses shown hint at a truly unique and endearing
extraterrestrial design, promising a humorous dynamic between the two protagonists.

Project Hail Mary is set for a theatrical release on March 20, 2026. With a strong creative team,
a captivating premise, and the star power of Ryan Gosling, this first trailer suggests that “Project

Hail Mary” is set to deliver another thrilling and intellectually engaging cinematic journey into the depths of space.
