Fall is the Perfect Time for Sci-Fi Films, What Can We Expect?

Science-fiction films are all the rage this year, and we still have much to expect before 2025.
Between Arcadian, I Saw The Glow, Humane, Dune: Part Two, and others, it’s an exciting time
for those who thoroughly enjoy this genre. What other films can fans expect for the remaining of
the year?

Subservience, a sci-fi thriller starring Megan Fox, explores the story of a struggling father whose
wife becomes violently ill and purchases a very lifelike android AI named Alice. Alice’s main use
is to help around the house and assist with his daughter, but the AI becomes so self-aware that
it wants to be extremely involved with the family affairs, including becoming overly possessive of
the father and being a deadly danger to others.

Another exciting sci-fi film fans can expect in September is The Uglies, based on the popular
novel by Scott Westerfield. The film takes place in a futuristic timeline with strict and enforced
beauty standards, where teens are forced into cosmetic surgeries to become pretty at the age of
sixteen. Tally is close to the age of sixteen and she has been dreaming of becoming pretty, and
once she is, she will be catapulted into a high-tech world where her only job is to live her best
life and have fun. Her friend Shay, however, isn’t sure she wants to be pretty and hides from
society so she isn’t forced into a life she’s forced to live. After Shay runs away, Tally discovers
that the ‘pretty’ world isn’t actually the paradise it’s made out to be. This film will be released on
Netflix.

Last but not least, a highly anticipated film especially by video game fans, is Borderlands, based
on the famous video game and will release on August 9th, 2024. It is directed by Eli Roth,
known for his gruesome and intense films, though this film will be limited due to its PG-13 rating.
An infamous bounty hunter named Lilith returns to her home planet Pandora and forms a group
with a bunch of misfits to fight off monsters, only to reveal Pandora’s most explosive secrets.
Many familiar actors are set to play in this film, such as Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jack
Black.

With all of these highly intense films being released in late 2024, it’s only a matter of time before
doors open to even more science fiction films in the upcoming year. Keep your eyes peeled for
