Elio Teaser Trailer Reaction

Pixar’s new original film, ‘Elio’, sees a young boy willingly get captured by aliens, though he unnknowingly creates a huge problem when he says he’s actually Earth’s leader. The trailer leads audiences into what kickstarts the film, and shows off some amazing visuals that only Pixar are capable of. 

The trailer opens with the Elio, showing his obsession with aliens. He desperately wants a life among the stars, wanting to escape his seemingly dull suburban life. His mum is definitely worried about this, as she urges Elio to leave the house and meet people his age. Though of course others around Elio’s age are unwilling to make friends with him, as he’s percieved as being weird. And frankly it’s hard not to see Elio’s weirdness and obsession with space, as he’s comparing a mole to the shape of the Orion Nebula. He’s also trying to get himself kidnapped by aliens. 

But Elio’s dreams come true when one day he actually does get kidnapped by aliens, much to his delight. The different visuals and shapes here are fantastic, giving a unique spin on the beam of light and alien ship. The aliens too are made up of fantastic and weird shapes, showing what even a bit of imagination can do. Elio meets a council of planet leaders, and then claims he’s the leader of Earth, which is of course the lie that will likely drive the film forward. 

As the trailer goes on, it’s clear that those on Earth catch wind of the situation, with messages beamed down to what’s likely to be Elio’s mum, and police cars race across tarmac. Elio is in a lot of trouble. This is only underscored when he comes across what looks like an evil robot, which is never good. While there is likely to be a lot of wonder and joy on this ship, who knows what secrets it truly hides. The intentions of the aliens also are nebulous at present. Are they noble? Evil?

There are some locations that Elio visits on the alien spaceship, likely as part of a guided tour he gets. They fill the screen with vibrant colours and many shapes, showing what happens when creativity is allowed to flurish and the skill of the people at Pixar. 

‘Elio’ will launch in cinemas on June 13, 2025.
