EagleCon 2024 comes to Cal State LA honoring actor Edward James Olmos, actress Dr. Dawnn Lewis and visual effects designer Harrison Ellenshaw

EagleCon will come to Cal State in Los Angeles this year, to honor actor Edward James Olmos, actress Dr. Dawnn Lewis and visual effects designer Harrison Ellenshaw.

The conference will last two days, and will be hosted by Cal State LA University and the Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800 to celebrate the anniversaries of ‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘The Matrix’, and ‘The Terminator’.

The theme of the convention will be Unfrakking the Future: Apocalypse and Its Alternatives, which will last over two days, Tuesday October 15, and Wednesday october 16.  

‘Battlestar Galactica’ will be celebrating its 20th anniversary, ‘The Matrix’ its 25th, and ‘The Terminator’ its 40th. All have endured as beloved science fiction franchises over the years.  

Ellenshaw will be honored with the Imaginator Award on October 15 for their pioneering work in visual effects, and  Lewis will be honored with the Octavia E. Butler Memorial Award. 

Ellenshaw helped to create visuals for many films such as ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’, ‘The Black Hole’, ‘Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’, ‘Tron’, and more.

Fans will be able to catch highlights of his work in the university’s library until December 1. 

Lewis has had a storied career as an actress, voiceover artist and songwriter. Lewis’ credits include ‘I’m Gonna Get You Sucka’, ‘A Different World’, ‘iZombie’, and ‘The Boys’, ‘Futurama’, ‘The Simpsons’, ‘Carmen Sandiego’ and ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’. 

On October 16, Olmos will be receive the Prism Award.

Olmos has had roles in key science fiction franchises, Gaff in the 1982 film ‘Blade Runner’ and Admiral William Adama in the series ‘Battlestar Galactica’, which ran from 2003 to 2009.

Unfrakking the Future  will highlight hopeful and positive visions of the the future for Hollywood and the entertainment industry, with members of the Art Directors Guild and IATSE Local 800 present. 

The exhibition will also feature designs from ‘Battlestar Galactica’, ‘The Matrix’, and ‘The Terminator’ in celebration of their milestone years.This event is free to the public and a full schedule can be seen on the EagleCon website.
