Dragon Ball DAIMA Full Series Overview
With Dragon Ball DAIMA finally over, many fans have a wide range of opinions. While some appreciate the franchise’s return in any form and enjoy the lighter tone, others are disappointed with the more rushed parts and the overall lack of stakes. Many fans wonder, with its flaws and all, how well this series will hold up against the rest of Dragon Ball once the shine of a new series has worn away.
The new characters and comedic tone of the series is certainly its biggest highlight. Seeing brand new faces interact with Goku and friends has given the franchise fresh life that has reignited plenty of joy in fans. However, what can’t be ignored are the outright dropped plot threads. With what is now known to have been a troubling development, there are obvious plot points and devices that were introduced only to be swept under the rug when they were no longer part of the plan. Aspects that were promised near the start, like the fusion bugs, were dropped entirely while other things that had no build up were pulled from thin air, like the introduction of Super Saiyan 4.
There were also clear pacing issues, with the first three-fourths of the show taking it slow only for it to blitz to the finish line in the last handful. With all this said, Dragon Ball has always been a show about characters and spectacle. While DAIMA may not reach the same heights as Dragon Ball Z, it certainly passes the bar of series like GT. Time will tell how the long-term opinion on Goku’s journey through the Demon World will be seen, but signs are pointing to a kind outlook on what is the last anime Toriyama had a hand in.
