Daredevil: Born Again Trailer Reaction

Marvel fans have had to wait a long time for a proper trailer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Daredevil. But finally, it’s here with a long look at ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ showcasing what audiences can expect when the series releases in March. And it’s a wonderfully violent trailer, showcasing old favorites and new threats.

The trailer is framed with a short conversation with Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, two longtime enemies pretending to be friends. They chat with each other, knowing each’s dark secrets, which comes through as subtxt in their innocent chit chat. Violence is cut throughout the trailer, both with Daredevil and Kingpin fighting new villain Muse. Focusing on the conversation between Fisk and Murdock, audiences get a meta comment from Fisk as he says it’s not unpleasant to see Murdock again, though a twitch in his left hand betrays that he does find it unpleasant.

Their conversation continues, with Fisk saying Murdock has come up in the world, with shots of Foggy Nelson, played by returning actor Elden Henson, and Karen Page, played by another returning actor Deborah Ann Woll. it’s great to see the gang of friends reuniting, after such a long hiatus after the Netflix ‘Daredevil’ ended. Murdock comments that Fisk has also high on his luck, having been successfully elected as mayor of New York City, something that happened in the comics since 2015. Audiences get a brief look at Times Square, with a nod to the Rogers musical on the side. Muse is also shown off painting Fisk as a two-faced politician, and well he’s not wrong. Muse though is clearly soemone who needs to be stopped, as he creates horrible works with his serial violence.

Murdock comments that he thinks Fisk is gaming the system, which is very likely, but Fisk ignores that and shockingly asks why Murdock gave up on being a vigilante, on Daredevil. Murdock explains a line was crossed, with his mask falling from the sky, falling to hel. Fisk explains the violent side that both share is just part of their nature. Murdock gets savegely beaten up in his home, blood splattering. Audiences also get a look at the villain Bullseye, played by returning actor Wilson Bethel as he’s released from prison. Another returning character is Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher, as he fights Murdock without realising it was him. There’s a lot of characters for the series, hopefully it can be done justice.

Murdock’s catholicism will be a part of this series, helping him standout from other MCU heroes. More shots of awesome, blood soaked violence continue, with a proper look at the villain Muse, reinforcing that in tone, this series is a continuation of the Netflix show, and will be very serious as well as orientated to older fans. Thankfully, it’s far removed from the Daredevil audiences saw in ‘She-Hulk’, though audiences do get a nod to that with the yellow helmet towards the end.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ releases on Disney+ on March 4.
