Cinemacon 2023: Disney highlights
Cinemacon is the yearly event where studios show exclusive looks at upcoming films, and this year, with each major studio in attendance, was just as packed as all the others. On Wednesday 26 April, Disney released their major announcements, and here are some of the highlights.
It’s not long until Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny releases into cinemas, and those in attendance were treated to another action packed clip from the film. It featured both Indiana Jones and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Helena chasing Mads Mikkelsen’s Jürgen Voller in a car.
Helena proves she’s just as capable as Indy, performing stunt after stunt, to Indy’s disbelief.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released in cinemas on June 30, 2023.
Another upcoming film, Pixar’s Elemental got a 20 minute look at the event. In the clip, audiences are introduced to Ember, voiced by Leah Lewis and who is the main character in the film. It progresses throughout her life, starting with her as a baby and going from there.
It shows the event that leads her to meeting water resident Wade voiced by Mamoudou Athie. One day, her hot temper gets the better of her, and Ember causes a flood in her family’s shop basement.
Elemental will be released in cinemas on June 16, 2023.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Little Mermaid, and Haunted Mansion all get exclusive clips at the event.
The Guardians clip is an extended version of a trailer shot, featuring the heroes in their coloured spacesuits.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 releases May 5, 2023 in the USA and May 3, 2023 in the UK.
The Little Mermaid one focuses on Melissa McCarthy’s Ursula performing the well-known song ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’.
The Little Mermaid releases May 26, 2023.
Haunted Mansion gave a look at Owen Wilson’s character Kent pulling on a sconce and breaking it off, and LaKeith Stanfield’s Ben Matthias opening up a secret passageway.
Finally, an exclusive look at Gareth Edwards’ (the director of Rogue One and Godzilla) new sci-fi film, titled The Creator.
It tells a story set in a far flung future where humans and robots are at war with each other.
John David Washington is set to star, and the clip hints at him caring for a child android, but it’s not clear yet. The film will also feature Gemma Chan from Eternals.
The film will be released on September 29, 2023.
