Arcane’ Season 2 Trailer Breakdown

A new trailer has been released for season two of Netflix’s ‘Arcane’, based on League of Legends from Riots Games.

Netflix Anime

The show follows the inhabitants of the two different halves of Piltover. The Undercity is dark and grimy, filled with crime and poverty, where its population uses a drug named Shimmer to make their lives bearable. Topside, meanwhile, is wealthy and prosperous, a trade hub and center of innovation, largely thanks to a mysterious power known as the Arcane, which they have managed to develop into a powerful technology called Hextech.

The show’s first season ended on a cliffhanger, as the ruling council of Piltover was attacked by Jinx, and from the looks of it in the trailer, none of its members survived. This is no surprise, as the show has a habit of killing off important and well liked characters if the story demands it.

The destruction of the council has led to a power vacuum in the city, into which has stepped Ambessa Nedarda, the mother of one of the council members, who believes in ruling with an iron fist. Declaring martial law in the city.

The trailer shows that the fight between sisters Vi and Jinx is still ongoing. Jinx looks to be taking a leading role in the Undercity, stirring it up into open rebellion and civil war against its richer counterpart, instigating bombings in the city, attacking civilians. Vi on the other hand appears to have become an enforcer in the Overcity, working to take down her sister and the gangs she controls.

There’s a line in the trailer that says the Arcane is “waking up”, though what exactly this means isn’t clear. Throughout most of season one, it was mainly used for building new technology and weapons, with suggestions that its true power and potential was unknown, and probably far more dangerous than anyone imagined. As Jayce and Viktor, the two characters most involved in researching it, were killed in the attack on the council, it looks like their mentor Heimerdinger could be taking on their work. He frequently warned against messing with the Arcane and was wary of its potentially destructive nature.

When the first season of ‘Arcane’ premiered back in 2021, it received praise for its storytelling, characters, and animation, and it looks like season two will be just as good in all of these respects, but with more action and ever higher stakes added into the mix, as the show heads towards its conclusion.

The final season of ‘Arcane’ will be released on Netflix in November this year.
