Alien Romulus Invades SDCC 2024 with Facehuggers and Chestbursters

Audiences had a harrowing time during the ‘Alien: Romulus’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con, not only getting to see exlcusive clips from the upcoming movie, but also getting to take part in Comic-Con theatrics featuring aliens.

20th Century Studios

The first clip showed Cailee Spaeny and her astronaut crew going through a red-lit alien lab-incubator area.

Baby aliens begin popping out of the wall and into the water in a scene that was likely inspired by the monster found in the trash-compactor monster from ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’, though with the horror of how that would likely play out.

The second clip had Aileen Wu’s Laura getting her chest burst by a baby alien while a spaceship is clumsily taking off.

Towards the end of the panel, big red-lit sirens went off throughout the auditorium, and alien facehuggers crawled on stage.

An actor waddled on stage, foaming at the mouth, and an alien burst out of his chest.

To allow for some limited audience participation, all attendees in Hall H got an alien facehugger mask.

‘Romulus’ takes place between Ridley Scott’s 1979 ‘Alien’ movie and James Cameron’s 1985  ‘Aliens.’

Ridley Scott made an appearance to the panel via video chat, asking ‘Romulus’ director Fede Alvarez what the themes would be.

“It’s called Romulus because it’s a story of siblinghood” answered Alvarez.

“One of the things I wanted to explore not seen in the original movies are the real human connections among all the characters.

“This is the first time you have really close people that really love each other, so when sh*t like this happens, it makes it much more dramatic – being someone’s sibling – would you die for your brother or sister, or leave them behind?”

Alien: Romulus opens in cinemas on August 16.
