A New Game on the Horizon: Navigating the Flooded World of “The Last Caretaker”
A compelling new first-person survival action-adventure, The Last Caretaker, is making waves
with its unique premise and atmospheric world. Developed by the independent Finnish studio
Channel37, this debut title puts players in the metallic shoes of a lone robot tasked with nothing
less than the rebirth of humanity.
Set centuries after a catastrophic flood has submerged Earth, leaving an endless ocean dotted
with decaying megastructures and forgotten technology, players awaken as the “Last
Caretaker.” Their mission is clear: to reactivate the ancient MOSES launch infrastructure,
nurture the last human embryos within the “Seed Vaults” and “Lazarus Complex,” and send
humanity’s future to the stars.
The Last Caretaker gameplay revolves around sailing across the vast, open-world ocean,
scavenging for vital resources from abandoned platforms and submerged structures. These
resources are crucial for crafting new tools, repairing critical systems, and even manufacturing
weaponry to fend off the rogue machines and biomechanical threats that now roam the water.
A significant aspect of the game involves resource management and strategic decision-making.
Every bullet, every fuel cell, every electric charge matters, forcing players to weigh whether to
use resources for combat, powering systems, or simply keeping their vessel operational. The
game also incorporates a “nurturing” element, where players must balance nutrition, energy,
and memories to cultivate the human embryos, culminating in the high-stakes launch of rockets
into orbit. These key points make the game rather unique compared to others.
The Last Caretaker is slated for Early Access release on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store)
this summer, with a console release planned for a later date.
