Mark Hamill is Done Playing Luke Skywalker
Mark Hamill, best known for playing the Jedi Luke Skywalker in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, has said that he has finsihed with the character and won’t return to the role in future.
In an interview with ComicBook.com to promote his upcoming movie ‘The Life of Chuck’, the star was asked if he would reprise the role, and responded with an emphatic no.
“I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made,’” Hamill said.
“We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.
“And by the way, when I disappeared in [The Last Jedi], I left my robes behind. And there’s no way I’m gonna appear as a naked Force ghost.”
Skywalker famously become one with the Force in ‘The Last Jedi’, when he projected himself across the galaxy to duel Kylo Ren.
Hamill did reappear as a Force Ghostin the ninth entry to the Skywalker Saga, ‘The Rise of Skywalker’, but won’t be on hand to give Rey advice during the New Jedi Order film.
Daisy Ridley said in an interview with AlloCiné back in January 2024 that “”Once I knew what the story was and everything, I knew that it was something I really wanted to do,” she said. “I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”
The next ‘Star Wars’ film to be released in cinemas will be ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ on May 22, 2026
