In the early morning hours of May, 20, 2019… the first studio scale replica of the USS Enterprise Refit from Star Trek The Motion Picture would be started up for the first time. We stood in silence, and I had tears in my eyes as we watched it for the first time. This would be the reaction of many when they viewed it just 4 days later. This Kuhn Global model built by Dan Grumeretz (from parts mostly created by George Takacs) would be crated up directly after this brief time in order to go on a three day, over 2500 mile journey to be presented at the 2019 Escape Velocity Convention. There, Kurt and Melanie Kuhn, along with Dan Grumertez, would donate it to The Museum of Science Fiction. In this video, the model is not finished, but just assembled for the first time. There was a time crunch to get it to the Convention, and it was completed there. Note that this model at this stage is NOT COMPLETED. There are window masks and fill areas left to do that would be done at the Convention site in Alexandria, VA.
