In the mid 70’s, NASA commissioned an artist to paint actual science based concepts of humans living in space in the distant future. I’m gonna post a bunch of pictures of these, 2 a day at first, but maybe I’ll speed up if it feels like it’s taking too long.
First up: O’Neill cylinders! This is the exterior of a massive cylindrical space station with an atmosphere contained inside proposed by physicist Gerard O’Neill. This design was codenamed “Island Three”.
